As you’re developing a business name, you’ll want to make sure that any name you come up with fits the Guidelines and Restrictions created for Kansas businesses. Using these rules, you’ll be able to come up with a unique name that sticks to the laws, creating smoother results.

Once you’ve come up with a few name options, it’s time to run a few searches and make sure that the name you want isn’t already taken. The Kansas Business Center makes this easy by providing a simple Name Availability Search Engine.

You can also call or email the Business Services department if you need a little extra help, or have questions about the naming process.

Frequently Asked Questions

When you’re ready to reserve your name, you can get started by creating an account with the KanAccess program. Much like some other states, the Kansas Secretary of State website prefers to keep all of the documents and information needed for your business in one place.

Useful information:

– You can find some help with navigating the KanAccess program through the KanAccess Help page.

– Once you have created an account, you can also link a subscriber account to KanAccess.

Before you can reserve your business name, you’ll need to create a KanAccess account. In order to do this, you’ll need the following information:

– Email address

– Password

– First and last name

Afterwards, you’ll be able to access the name reservation application. Typically, these types of application require information such as:

– The name you want to reserve

– Name and address of the applicant

– A check or money order to cover the name reservation application fee

Your best option is going to be to keep looking for a new name. While it may sometimes seem like a good idea to have a name that is similar to a well-known business, it’s ultimately going to cause confusion and likely result in some frustration for customers.

Furthermore, it’s much more rewarding to develop your own unique brand and help it to gain recognition. That way, when customers hear the name of your business, they aren’t thinking about another company that may be out there.

If you would like some help in figuring out your options with regard to similar or duplicate names, it never hurts to contact the Secretary of State office!
